Blog Post #5

This course has taught me a lot in regards to designing a research study. For one, I was pretty much oblivious to the different types of research methods in their basic forms. I just thought research was research. After writing a research proposal myself, I have a much clearer idea not only how to write one, but why. That principle is similar to the goal of writing a proposal in the first place, explaining how and why. The processes we went over in class have really opened my eyes to the different potential roles and responsibilities of a technical writer. There is a lot of tediousness, the details really matter. I feel like I would not have as much of a hard time writing a proposal if I had full control over the subject matter. While research proposals and literature reviews might not be my thing, I see the merit in regards to understanding the how research is ultimately done on a professional level. That being said, this is my final blog of the course. Thanks for reading and goo...

Plans for Revision     Research has proved to be a bit more demanding than I originally expected. Since forming an outline, I have been mostly gathering sources and continuing to group them by topic and relevance. As far as the feedback I have gotten I think my primary issue is consistency; I need to pay more attention to the details. It is easy to overlook minor things like small punctuation and grammar errors, in-text citation errors, etc., while operating with the goal of creating this relatively big proposal with synthesis and supporting data. An issue I have dealt with throughout my academic career is procrastination; I prefer to do work to completion once I start. So, for the remainder of the writing I need to do, I think I will just sit down and do a section to completion and set aside a good block of time this weekend to really comb the details. We'll see how it goes!
Post #1: Topic Interests     I am currently in my second to last semester here at Utah Tech, I plan to graduate in the spring with a professional and technical writing emphasis. I have not given much thought to what research I may want to delve into for my capstone, but there are a few different things I would be interested in doing.     For one, I find the internet based content and audiences to be extremely interesting. I think there would be plenty of opportunity to explore things such as the effects of social media on content consumption or the changing role of the audience given the unprecedented access and platform they now obtain. Overall I think some sort of topic involving internet content and the differences between it and traditional content formats .
